Only Human
Crazy was the day, I first rode a real rollercoaster, not just one of those haunted house rides, but the real deal. Loop-de-loop. G-force. Regret. Oh but it wasn’t just any real rollercoaster. It was the crown jewel of rollercoasters. This one was called “Human” and it certainly made you feel alive.
On our way to Koh Phangan (Island in Thailand), my bestie and I took an extended flyover in Singapore, we were both very impressed with the city. It was very clean, had gorgeous architecture and if you can deal with the humidity and heat, an amazing city to visit. I would love to go back.
While we were in Singapore, we decided to hit up Universal Studies.
The place was amazing, lots of different rides and areas to look at.
My highlight was the entry way.
To enter I had to pass through the gates of Jurrassic park. It was quite surreal and I couldn’t help myself - I had to quote the movie, “Welcome to Jurrassic park.” So simple, yet extremely satisfying. It was a childhood dream come true.
We rode a few of the simple rides. Nice and easy. Which was good for an amusement park beginner like myself.
After 2 different rides and several hours, (the line-ups took forever as there were so many people there). My friend and I stopped in front of the most intense rollercoaster I had ever laid my eyes on. Not exaggerating.
Her face lit up like a christmas tree. I knew it was our next destination, whether I wanted it to be or not. There would be no talking her out of it.
With a deep breath I decided to be courageous and we bought tickets. You only live once right. And if this was the end, at least it would make such an end.
Upon entry, you had to surrender all non-essential items, no loose jewellery, no phone, purse, etc. I was hesitant to part ways with my charm bracelet that my parents had bought me as a protective keepsake. But you know… my deathtrap awaited, so goodbye safety, protection and comfort levels.
Now here is where things go a little side ways.
What’s the longest you’ve ever waited in line to ride a rollercoaster? Mine was now 3 hours and 54 minutes. It was hot as hell, with extreme humidity. No fan, no air-conditioning, and no water. Tightly compacted sweaty bodies, all piled up in the lines. AKA Heatstroke central!
Now I don’t deal with the heat very well as is, but this was a whole different level of hot and easily the longest few hours of my life.
FINALLY! It was now our turn… I was strapped into the seat. My regret level already sky-high. I took a deep breath and we were away.
The first thing you feel is the g-force against your body and the lurch of your stomach where you feel like you are free falling. Plus weirdly enough, for me there was complete silence. I knew there were people around me screaming, but my mind wouldn’t register that. I was far too busy focusing on the end of the ride.
Just hold on. We got this. Come on it’s suppose to be fun. Nope! My mind wasn’t having any of it.
I sat there in silence and silently begged for each turn to be the last. Half way through, I convinced myself to cry out like everyone else, to see if it would make me feel better… it didn’t.
Funnily enough the ride didn’t exactly end when it was supposed to either… Instead we heard a loud creaking sound and all of a sudden the ride stopped. Not 10 meters from the end.
Now I don’t know if you’ve ever been on a high intensity rollercoaster, but when you stop moving, your mind… doesn’t really.
Motion sickness is a b****!
After realising the rollercoaster had broken down, I had the fun time of trying not to be sick for 20-30 minutes while the workers had to fix it. We were floating midair and I remember just looking at my bestie and we both laughed.
What were the chances that the ride would breakdown while we were on it.
The first time I had taken that bloody bracelet off and something happened.
My tummy was not happy, my head was pounding, but I managed to hold myself together.
When we were finally free. The workers apologized and gave us free express tickets to any of the park rides.
Excellent… too bad I never wanted to ride another rollercoaster for as long as I lived.
But silly me I should have known better. I forgot who I was travelling with.
I don’t know why I listened, maybe because my brain had turned to mush.
My dear sweet bestfriend, is one of those people that love rollercoasters, it gave her a rush, and she was so excited to keep going. She convinced me that she’d found a nice easy ride to use our tickets on.
I was still struggling, but followed her anyway. She lead me into a giant building, it looked like an Egyptian crypt of sorts. I was rather impressed with the attention to detail on the building and statues. Having a love of history and Egypt, I was rather drawn to it.
My mind thought that maybe she was right, we were inside a building, it couldn’t be that bad… nothing like the rocketing around in midair we had just done.
Pfft… Man was I wrong.
Yeah you guessed it. Another bloody horror show. This ride was mostly in the dark and had us falling backwards, moving up and down, and every which way. It was a haunted Egyptian indoor rollercoaster ride.
I couldn’t walk straight by the time we left and I was literally dizzy for days after that… guess I’m just one of the unlucky ones who get severely affected by it.
At least I can cross that one off of my bucket list!
As something I’m never doing again.
